Stella Ignition is a photographic project concerning our energy future. Transcending space and time, the works resist a singular interpretation, embracing complexity and contradiction throughout.
At its core, Stella Ignition explores humanity’s enduring relationship with the sun — from ancient worship to modern technological ambitions. The works connect our early myths and wonder of the heavens to today’s pursuit of energy and sustainability; from simply capturing the sun's energy in the form of solar, to recreating its very process here on earth through nuclear fusion.
The project traverses a myriad of threads, from: Origins & Worship, Emulation & Extraction, Collapse & Renewal, Research & Industry, Capture & Containment and Promises & Prophecies - highlighting the complex and often deep interconnectedness between these concepts.
Through this, the project considers human knowledge and its resulting technologies: what we do with them, how far we go, and what limits we place upon them. It is here that questions of progress and responsibility emerge.
